ABOUT ME

My name is Sharon Morris and I am a person living with a disability. I was diagnosed with a rare bone condition at birth and I have relied on a wheelchair for my mobility for many years. I am happily married and a mother to three grown up children, two of which are twins.  I have always enjoyed travelling and have always managed to do so with my family. I have travelled overseas as well as within Australia and faced many accessibility challenges. I am a passionate advocate for inclusive tourism and collaborate with a number of organisations and travel partners both within Australia and overseas.

I was employed from 2007-2012 at a local Council and my role as Disability and Seniors Enquiry Officer gave me a passion for helping people with disabilities just go about their daily lives. I learned a lot about Disability Discrimination and Human Rights. I realised that I wanted to do something more to help people enjoy their lives.

In 2012 I was accepted into a government initiative called 'Leaders for Tomorrow' which gave the the opportunity to explore what my passion was and how I could put it to use for the benefit of other people living with disability.  At the beginning I did not know where this would take me but also at that time I was planning my own overseas holiday to Canada. This had been a life-long dream for me and I found little help was available through mainstream travel agencies as they had no knowledge of what accessibility really meant and how to meet my individual needs. That is where the idea of Access-Able Travel was born.

I have completed Certificate III in Tourism (Visitor Information Services) and now I want to help other people with mobility challenges like those I face to be able to travel and have wonderful experiences and create everlasting memories.
